Police suicide Essay

In the recent past, there have been a number of cases involving police suicide. These have brought alarm to the nation as the same people delegated with the duty of safe guarding life are now turning against their own self. It’s believed that the number of officers who die from suicide in the   US surpass the number of those who die in the line of duty. In most of the cases, the cause of death is not revealed to the people to protect the victim’s family and friends. Abstract This research paper intends to seek the main causes of police officers suicide. It contains a sample of research questions it intends to answer plus their hypothetical responses. It also contains literature on previous findings. In addition it contains the methods used in data analyses as well as the possible out comes of the research. Statement of the problem Basing on the fact that, there figures from the police department showing that their colleagues do commit suicide, its evident that these is a problem that needs to be addressed before this situation runs out of proportion. It’s from this factor of admission that the research paper seeks to identify the possible causes of rise in the rate of police sources. Research question In order to get the relevant information to this research, several questions could be formulated which if answered correctly would provide answers and information to aid in writing this report. These include: †¢ Under what situations do police commit suicide often? †¢ What age group of the police is at a higher risk of committing suicide? †¢ Are there particular periods or events in the police calendar that are followed by high numbers of suicide? †¢ Do police who commit suicide have a mental disturbance history? †¢ Were they alcoholic? †¢ What is the perception of the suicide to the police officers? Hypothesis †¢ Police between the ages of 20 and 30 are at the higher risk of committing suicide. †¢ Both normal and police officers with mental disturbance histories do commit suicide. †¢ Police officers often perceive as the last resort to resolve or run away from challenges or situations they can’t bear. Literature review It has been confirmed that more than 110 police officers have committed suicide during the last year alone with more cases still under investigation, this was an all time high since the recording begun in the 1980s. However the rate of police suicide is still low when compared to people of the American society with similar back ground and educational levels. This can be attributed to the fact that the police have the capacity to provide mental health care to its officers counseling and other support services required. (Krueger,1998) Suicides can be attributed to relationship problems. This may include, pressure from their spouses, be it financial or general relationship problems. If an officer can’t stand this pressure and they obvious fact of the availability of the weapons, chances of committing suicide are high. Suicide can also be attributed to strain relationship between officers and their fellow officers or officers and their seniors. In addition, there are times when the officers get trouble at their places of work. For instance they may be accused of neglecting their duties or services or a performance that does not meet the set out rules and standards. This pressure leads to suicide rather than face the ensuing consequences or disciplinary measures which include termination of services or suspensions. (www.usarmy.gov/suicide, 2008) Police officers faced with regal procedures such as murder cases, corruption cases or negligence of duty cases do commit suicide in the event that they feel they may not win the cases or justice will either be delayed or denied. Moreover, there are financial difficulties that often lead to high rates of suicide among the police officers. Currently in the USA there are several financial obligations that pose a challenge to the police officers in their endeavor to meet them. This includes taxation fees, mortgages and family financial obligations. Officers who find it hard to meet these obligations do commit suicide rather than face the realities of their failures. Another factor that has lead to police suicide is stress and depression. Officers are often time tied in their work leaving no or little time for leisure or recreation. This unavailability of time to refresh leads to clogged minds and chances of suicide are increased. The horrifying and terrifying realities that the police are exposed to can lead to mental disturbances leading to suicide. This includes exposure to suicide scenes, gun murders and horrifying accidents. (www.National P.O.L.I.C.E..org, 2001) Methods of data collection (surveys, focus groups, observations) Surveys Several surveys have been conducted by the police force to ascertain the rate of police suicide. This information are often found at the police records and aided in getting the data required. Human rights groups have also conducted several surveys and have come up with figures showing the numbers, their age groups, marital status as well as the causes of the police officers suicide. Focus groups In addition focus groups can be used to gather relevant information concerning these suicides. They can focus on a particular police county for a period of time keeping records and happenings and durations of suicides. Observations Several eye witness observations can also be relied on to come up with relevant information and figures. The information can be got from immediate family members of the officers involved who are affected by his or her death or who witnessed them committing suicide. Another way of gathering information is by interviewing fellow police officers or their seniors. They may be holding vital information about the circumstances surrounding the officers death or possess information that had been on to the by the officer prior to suicide. Methods of Data analyses Analytical induction method This method will be used to analyze the collected data and come up with comments to be used in the findings. In this method, the event surrounding the officers suicide are studied after which a hypothetical reason on the cause of that is developed. Logical analysis In this process, the cause of an officer’s suicide is determined by an inductive way of reasoning. For example, the cause can be attributed to a factor leading to another. Example, an officer commits murder, legal proceedings are instituted against him, its delayed, he is frustrated and commits suicide. Possible outcomes/ findings There are several factors that can be associated with the increased number of police suicide. Some of them are purely personal while others are a multiplicity of various other factors. Mental problems can be associated to these suicides. Officers who have a mental problem are at high risk of taking their own lives especially so if they suffer from the condition in their line of duty and in the possession of a weapon. Through their unsound mind, they may make unsound decisions to kill themselves. Another factor that would cause an officer to commit suicide is alcoholism and drug use. If an officer is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it reduces his or her cognitive abilities. With their reduced cognitive ability, they may turn against themselves as a way of actualizing their fantasies at the time which include the urge to kill or cause mayhem. Too much pressure at places of work may lead to suicide. Senior officers may pressure their junior to perform duties at specified period of time or which may pose danger to officers them selves. Such duties such as fighting armed drug cartels or tracking down terrorists and serial killers may lead to suicide among officers to avoid such works or as away of showing their displeasure to their seniors. The US justice system is also to blame for a number of police suicides. Rather than face the possibility of dismissal and the stigma associated with it from such legal proceeding such as murder, corruption or negligence of duty, officers results to taking their own life. In some other cases the regal proceedings may take longer period that expected leaving the officers frustrated and demoralized often leading to suicide.

International Hospitality Management And Leadership Education Essay

The original spirit of critical contemplation is to detect the nucleus index to trip a phenomenal, event, account, etc. Bing a critical mind means that individual should ever try to determine original factors impact to the context he is influenced or the concerned state of affairs so fixing appropriate method when facing similar circumstance in the hereafter. The cumulative nature of this extended consciousness no uncertainty could heighten insight and competency sing the facet insisted. Rigg & A ; Trehan ( 2008 ) implied invention could be achieved as a eventful consequence deducing from critical contemplation: â€Å" † critical contemplation is the procedure by which grownups identify the premises regulating their actions, locate the historical and cultural beginnings of the premises, inquiry the significance of the premises, and develop alternate ways of moving † . Therefore larning journey ‘s quality is merely incremental within important back uping function fr om critical contemplation. This study is so a personal reflective analysis upon the undertaking conducted in â€Å" community impact pattern † faculty every bit good as defining the accomplishment after finishing MSC class.AnalysisContemplation on planning and executing of the undertakingPlaning Choosing the subject Initially, the passion to make a better life for kids was the nucleus ground behind the writer ‘s determination to affect into junior unit. The director ab initio expected to carry on athletics activities such as football, basket balls, etc. purposes to loosen up kids after long survey hours. However, the undertaking was supposed to be impracticable after careful consideration. First, physical nature of playing athletics hinted possible hazard of being injured to kids, particularly the overactive 1s. Not every kid was interested in fall ining physical instruction was another concern because coercing them to take part into this sort of activities would be unethical and illegal. In add-on, a meaningful plan was expected in every community meanwhile playing athletics merely carried modest consequence to kids in term of relaxation. As a consequence, writer determined to prosecute the class which could lend to kids ‘s success over their future instruction. After passing sensible clip to research, music was an optimal subject given its impact to human development. Beside that, bettering necessary accomplishments for kids through an academic music design would instead turn to the issue originally than concentrating on narrow mission such as helping them to work out a peculiar exercising, etc. The following challenge lies on building an effectual music related plan in order to accomplish indispensable accomplishments for the childs. Writer is chiefly confused about whether explicating the proposal within active or inactive attack. Active attack means learning the kids to execute a peculiar instrument while inactive one referred to making attached activities based on listening vocals. Nevertheless, originating a preparation category on instrument ‘s direction was shortly conceived as unfeasibility. Time inefficiency was the first incommodiousness because put to deathing such plan truly consumed considerable continuance whereas the projected was constrained within six months. As a consequence, the accomplishment after finishing the class was improbable able to make expected quality. In add-on, Author ‘s incapableness in executing instruments meant I could non affect straight into the plan. This deficiency of interaction with participants would impede Author to understand important factors toward kids ‘s patterned advance. Economic issue was other trouble since cost of engaging instrumental partic ipant was non cheap. Finally, kids were expected to be patient, hardworking if the preparation category was undertaken meanwhile non many people had this passion at such age so the hazard of being unsuccessful was reasonably high. As a consequence the inactive attack was the optimal option in this circumstance. Proposal A proposal of listening music plan had been formulated. The overarching purposes and aims were all explicated in this authorship. In general, by using the effectivity of music through structuring eventful exercisings after listening vocals, some important accomplishments including imaginativeness, coordination, concentration and forbearance were likely imaginable. The proposal was structured harmonizing to eight standards which were organisation, undertaking, principle, stakeholder appraisal, work dislocation construction, resource, result and impact. However, the proposal ‘s presentation had been ab initio refused by caput of capable and supervisor. After analysing this attack and did comparing with other pupils, the excessively theoretical prejudice throughout the proposal was believe the nucleus ground of this disapproval. Because of this equivocal account, lectors were truly struggle to capture the nucleus purpose that presenter wanted to leave. During the analysis of principle, benefit of music towards human development had been overpoweringly promulgated. Alternatively, other important factors to back up the determination devising including personal sentiment, the ground to take community were perfectly overlooked. Devoid of clear content since the imploring stairss explained why talk could non understand what the writer was traveling to make with his musical plan. The terrible deficiency of elaborate program in work dislocation construction further amalgamate ground to decline my first proposal. Albeit purposes and aims had been set obviously that was to assist kids spread out Numberss of accomplishment, an univocal strategy of how to practically heighten them had non been recommended. All of this typical ignorance had been corrected suitably in the 2nd proposal. The new proposal encompassed apparent building via careful explication sing practical domain in each standard. The imprecise content of the old proposal had been replaced by clear purpose and general counsel on possible activities since the debut. Personal sentiment and community ‘s supporting construction were besides incorporated purposes to consolidate undertaking ‘s feasibleness. Undertaking ‘s sustainability was decently controlled by set uping suited tactics based on contemplation of stakeholder appraisal which comprised of community, participants and parents. Furthermore, work breakdown construction ( WBS ) was besides hypothesized meticulously so it was doubtless able to supply a crystalline direction of how to magnify each accomplishment for kids consequently. First, range of undertaking noted how many kids would fall in the category every bit good as their age. Whereas all information about category agenda via equal activities, timetable were available in â€Å" clip & A ; topographic point † word picture. Academic vocals were adopted purposes to guarantee its content is suited to category ‘s ambiance and kids ‘s age. A lesson was typically classified into three periods which were listening, vocals ‘ account, brooding patterns and being proceeded severally. First portion in the lesson was listening two academic vocals, this might besides considered relaxed clip every bit good as opportunity to better concentration when kids were about immerse in tune. On the other manus, wordss ‘ account would back up kid s ‘s imaginativeness and coordination toward vocals listened, the indispensable competency expected to present in pulling subdivision in brooding patterns. In add-on, dry run was repeatedly performed before making presentation once more in order to present crystalline langue throughout the communicating. Finally, undertaking supervisor was convinced and acknowledged to continue. Community Using to a community was non as a simple procedure as early supposed. Indeed, all electronic mails sent to community were incurred not answer. Possibly the dependability issue was chief factor to these refusals. Therefore, direct communicating attack was implemented purposes to carry communities ‘ principals the benefits undertaking would transport to participants and community if it was allowed to put to death. Direct communicating through telephone, offline meeting was critical solution since its consecutive interaction would be a accelerator towards rule ‘s determination given more precise perceptual experience about Author during the conversation. As a consequence, the undertaking was welcomed by several communities and Thong Kheng Student attention Centre was chosen because of their precise anticipation when opening this unit which was to appreciate moral spirit, age of kids and grasp of art classs. Making a supporting construction for kids ‘s overall development is their chief aim. Furthermore, Centre besides attempts to further kids ‘s invention by appreciating art, trade and music in their day-to-day plan Executing The category was scheduled on every Tuesday and Friday at 9 am, whereas going from place to Thong Kheng community consumed more than one hr. Long journey via early timetable agencies project forced Author an version by seting kiping clip to earlier juncture on old twenty-four hours. In add-on, the promotion of information engineering had impacted writer ‘s determination in respect to method of roll uping resource. Despite on-line pursuit was ab initio preferred, deficiency of handiness, public-service corporation had deterred its rightness. In contrast, learning stuffs ( academic vocals for kindergarten ) would be pursued handily at CDs stores. Consequently, concluding determination was offline purchase. In add-on, category was purportedly managed by implementing two traditional leading theories which were behaviours and situational leading. Contemporary attacks, for case: transactional, personal appeal, transformational, etc. would be inappropriate given kids ‘s current knowledge and class ‘ low complexness. Behavior leading was invented in University of Michigan, Ohio. Initiating construction and consideration were two constituents of this attack. The former emphasized undertaking orientation, subject on exercising influence to subsidiaries ‘ public presentation while consideration preferred showing attention, encouragement to subordinate. Situational leading was the theoretical account developed by Hersey & A ; Blanchard. The theory had introduced a clear counsel on how to use behaviour of consideration and undertaking orientation upon peculiar state of affairs. There was a positive correlativity between employee ‘s competency and consideration and change b y reversal connexion with initiating construction. As a consequence, the complement of situational theoretical account and behavior theory would present excess quality given their clear counsel on how to act efficaciously. However, theory was non ever correct during running this undertaking. Harmonizing to the situational theory, one time kids understood vocals ‘ content deeply, undertaking should give them freedom to construction their drawing and became more consideration by offering them motive. In contrast, some kids sometime lost their involvement in making brooding pattern even being encouraged by Author. Their public presentation would merely be improved one time director was more disciplined and turn toing choice issue of their images. For case: a pupil was required to execute once more after making a careless drawing. Manager so provided a elaborate direction on how to make basic characteristics every bit good as appreciating when that kid ascertained new thought. Afterwards, the kid shortly regains his machination towards undertaking. The ambiance was reasonably formal in the first few lessons because the relation between instructor and kids had been at get downing phase. It was an advantage to get their obeisance in term of making exercising but their vacillation to discourse concerns with director would discourage quality of their work. Therefore, communicating accomplishment had been utilized to accomplish participants ‘ dependability. Once relation was optimized, director began to farther insist on undertaking orientation since some kids lost their concentration when they were accustomed to teacher. Nevertheless, better relation would be a determiner to construct up their assurance on executing vocals. Some valuable information which would profit appraisal on kids ‘s ability was bit by bit revealed through brooding patterns. Participants ‘ typical thought was ascertained by analyzing their contemplation in pulling subdivision. The prevailing though would be categorized into two prevailing though that were originative and structural. The structural pupils preferred to make crystal clear characteristics in their dramas and swayer was their favourite tool. In contrast, originative kids frequently crafted the image by their custodies via developing farther possible environing scenes. The structural participants were appreciated by their logical thought but encouragement to widen their work beyond what was recommended in vocals ‘ content no uncertainty consolidated their coordination and imaginativeness capableness. Creative kids were clever to speculate colourful scenarios alongside basic characteristics. Sections hypothesized in proposal were besides amended to heighten its suitableness. Harmonizing to proposal agenda, participant must listen two vocals foremost prior to make their contemplation. Nevertheless, the immature age of these participants did non let them to have big content within short clip. As a consequence, kids were allowed to execute drawing after listening one vocal. In add-on, common phenomenon was that kids had much better assimilation by supplying them lyric after finishing listening. Behavior of extended undertaking orientation was so implemented through listening activities. Consequently, it non merely improved their hearing accomplishment, the concentration and imaginativeness besides became better.Contemplation on impact and results of the CIP undertakingTheory into pattern Leadership theories As explained above, behavior theory and situational theoretical account were applied to act upon public presentation throughout the category. The voluntary nature of undertaking and immature participants means the operational procedure was non every bit complex as it usually was in concern context. Alternatively of using complicated modern theories, these two traditional methods would be much more appropriate choice. Insight on effectual behaviours was amplified by behavioural descriptions researched in behavior theory. However assorted scenarios in term of practical suggested a cosmopolitan behavior attack was possibly impossible to react all variable fortunes successfully. Consequently, situational theoretical account was complemented to beef up its effectual flexibleness by structuring a clear counsel upon readying of typical state of affairss. Behavior theory & A ; eventful contemplation The theory was developed by university of Michigan, Ohio in 1950s by roll uping prevailing behaviors of director sing assorted domains. New dimension contributed by theory by indicating out influence procedure is non merely one manner interaction, otherwise the behaviour is the consequence of multidimensional impact. Leader expresses consideration to employees non merely for selfless ground, by making so it could besides raises low-level satisfaction so may take to higher public presentation. Yulk ( 2011 ) defined initiating construction constituent as â€Å" leader defines and structures his or her ain function and the functions of subsidiary toward attainment of undertaking ends † . In pattern, an univocal construction had been formulated and applied to every lesson. A category was typically divided into three subdivisions via puting careful undertaking direction for both Author and participant. Class director was responsible to transport the Cadmiums and have permission to necessitate concentration from kids during listening subdivision. Song account was the 2nd stage in a lesson. This subdivision was considered as an intermediary measure prior to carry oning contemplation. Manager offered explication of new words and significance of each sentence in words to kids during this interval so their penetration refering to song ‘s content was doubtless consolidated every bit good as presenting extra quality to reflective exercisings. In concluding subdivision, participants were authorized to execute their pulling based on their apprehension. However minimal criterions had been discussed before the operation aims to integrate fundamentally sufficient characteristics mentioned in the vocal. Beside that, directors reserved the right to disrupt activity to any single. This engagement was cardinal in continuing quality of dramas or even the whole class because impact of single grounds such as restlessness would finally take to careless exercisings. Consequently, a clear outlook sing how to build typical characteristics could assist pupils get the better of their failings. The abovementioned activities reasonably accommodated Yulk ( 2011 ) ‘s sentiment, he believed â€Å" effectual directors concentrated on undertaking oriented maps such as planning and scheduling the work, organizing subsidiary activities, and supplying necessary supply, equipment, and proficient aid † . In term of coordination, kids are encouraged to interchange their perceptual experience, offering aid during account and pulling stage in order to hold a more comprehensive position. A kid could either depict or sketch an object ( recommended in the vocal ) which his equals ne'er saw was a typical illustration. Performing vocals wholly within authorising specific undertakings to each group was an chance to raise their squad work ‘s ability. Consideration is the 2nd typology in leading behaviours. â€Å" The leader acts in a friendly and supportive mode and shows concern for the demands and feelings of subsidiaries † ( Yulk 2011 ) . Subordinates ‘ satisfaction on occupation is amplified by bettering relationship between two parties. As a consequence, this behaviour is reciprocally supportive to side of undertaking orientation particularly in term of increasing commitment degree for a more effectual result. This facet besides contributed dramatically when it was utilized to raise overall spirit in category. Participants were truly confused whether they would capture whole vocal ‘s significance before plunging themselves in the first subdivision ( listening ) . This issue was tackled by showing assurance on their ability from category director. Their assurance farther strengthened by single treatment with director during account period. Manager ever expressed his concern on which characteristics did participant battle to understand. Additionally, any invention either on crafting excess objects in pulling exercising or in teamwork activity was recognized by publically grasp. Situational leading and its eventful contemplation The above theoretical account gives a crystalline direction upon behaviours should be expressed consequently when superior is in typical fortunes. A variable called adulthood determines whether consideration or undertaking orientation is insisted in a peculiar state of affairs. This dimension implies subordinate ‘s capableness in footings of carry throughing their assignments. Harmonizing to the theoretical account, director emphasizes overpoweringly on undertaking behaviours when employees are highly immature. The prejudice of originating construction is bit by bit balanced by consolidating relationship when employees are more capable. In pattern, category director ever concentrate on undertaking during the first two subdivisions when pupil ‘s apprehensions was unambiguous. This behavior normally involved inquiring pupil for their concentration when listening vocals, careful explication of every sentence in the words, illustrate unnoticeable characteristics, etc. Once kids capture whole vocal ‘s significance, behavior shifted to encouragement, acknowledgment of their invention in brooding stage. Indeed, this attack was utile to act upon participants ‘ attempt positively but it was non applicable to every persons. Although some kids ab initio was non interested in making exercisings, their attitude altered to much optimistic after being motivated by director such as showing trust on their ability, appreciation their dramas, etc. Nevertheless, several kids continued to make their image heedlessly even being supported by many consideration behaviours. Alternatively, the consequence would merely be im proved when director imposed more disciplined attitude to these kids. The 2nd phenomenal indicated situational theoretical account was non applicable to all instances particularly in brooding subdivision, possibly this is engendered by the contextual duality between where these voluntary participants involved and echt workplace environment ( salary, earnestness, etc. ) Contemplation on result Although there were several marks had been planned to accomplish before originating the class, relaxation was an indispensable deciding influence straight to the expected quality in category. Whether expected accomplishment would be really fulfilled depended on how good kids were intrigued towards undertakings, whereas there likely was a positive correlativity between relaxation and participants ‘ satisfaction, a important constituent would bring forth better attempt. Consequently, sense of relaxation has been carefully considered since the first subdivision. Music Cadmiums for kindergarten were purchased in a well known Academic Cadmium shop to do certain vocals displayed were appropriate to kids age. Indeed, it absolutely accommodated the expected spirit during this stage ( listening subdivision ) when all kids experience the category gleefully. However, it was improbable to transport the expected consequences by leting kids to bask the category gleefully without being force per unit area. In the first few categories, some kids were non interested in making brooding exercisings so earnestly leaded to inferior quality such as pulling heedlessly, disrupting other equals, etc. These foolhardy behaviours merely eliminated one time category director showing earnestly strong sense of subject every bit good as going undertaking orientation prejudice. Disciplined gesture was so recognized every bit of import as relaxation since it enforced participants the essentialness of at least making basic criterion in their dramas. Since the undertaking was specially designed to profit the kids by turning them Numberss of indispensable accomplishments. Concentration was first mark in docket because it laid the foundation to accomplish other competencies. After finishing the class, kids concentration degree was intensified sing simple activities involved in the first two subdivisions. This competency was continuously exhibited in singing via words during their brooding exercising. However, the concentration was deteriorated when they struggled on pulling normally referred to increasing degree of trouble. Possibly the immature age was the factor to suppress their success on geting an absolute concentration upon brooding exercisings as expected. The 2nd aim was to heightening coordination accomplishment for kids which finally reflecting to quality of their imaginativeness exercising. The appraisal of this knowledge ability would be classified into three hierarchies. At the primary degree, participants would merely capture the vocal ‘s significance after being explained in the 2nd subdivision via farther counsel on building the image. Sign of patterned advance to 2nd ranks comprised of the ability to bring forth an abstract scenario quickly after completing first subdivision and explicating an unambiguous perceptual experience once the 2nd subdivision completed ( song account ) . Finally, competency to get the hang a clear scenario for the image instantly after listening was perceived as highest degree and besides the accomplishment expected to accomplish after finishing this class. Despite there was an obvious patterned advance in coordination accomplishment, the range that ab initio desired was non satisfied. Despite inclination of suggestion upon chalk outing images bit by bit become less frequent, about members so struggled to wholly absorb vocal ‘s content until the handiness of wordss. Age issue was once more believed as a factor to impede their farther betterment since all category members were among five to seven twelvemonth old. Fostering forbearance for kids was satisfied by making a convenient context to bring forth their passion. The positive relevancy between passion and forbearance implicated one time kids became more intrigued toward brooding patterns, their committedness of making exercisings was besides amplified consequently. As a consequence, vocals ‘ subjects were normally accustomed to kids ‘s current knowledge to prolong their involvement during concluding subdivision in a category. Additionally, kids were even expected to keep their forbearance even incurring hard undertaking after finishing this plan. However the inclination to give up was prevailing once they were assigned to reflect abstract facets in a strange vocal ‘s subject. Impact and future deductions Participants were the first group benefited from this undertaking because some important accomplishments for farther development had been progressed. Typical competencies contained forbearance, concentration, coordination were critical to kids cognitive procedure every bit good as set uping back uping construction to obtain better assimilation throughout their educational way. Undertaking the category was besides an chance for writer to rehearse communicating accomplishment, leading by regular interacting with community and kids. Exchanging information to these cardinal stakeholders besides drive director out of comfort zone every bit good as increasing his assurance when fall ining public activity. These characters would be critical for professional development such as version, calling promotion, etc. Participants really showed marks of betterment after completing this class, therefore parents might anticipate continuity of this plan in the community. In return, community would spread out their repute by presenting extra quality to their service deducing from popularising brooding classs.Overall contemplation on larning journeyCritical reflecting and scrutinizing personal cognition and expertness â€Å" MSC international cordial reception leading and direction † non merely built an penetration of theoretical facet in planetary direction sphere, this academic class besides insisted the necessary of practical application by infixing this factor to writer ‘s researches, undertakings. Valuable cognition had been collected sing twosome of important facets at corporate degree such as human resource, long term scheme. Management term is non belonged to contract range of commanding a peculiar determination, it is instead a strategic methodological analysis to transport sustainable growing to organisation based on determination devising procedure and exercising influence efficaciously to equals, subordinate toward achieve overarching intent. My competency pertaining to those facets has been truly optimized after finishing this class. Furthermore, overpoweringly cosmopolitan cognition of direction construct engendered calling mobility for pupils. Despite the class rubric referred to cordial reception industry, penetration in context of direction was even applicable to other sectors given similar managerial environment in modern concern entity. As a consequence, calibrated pupils would be adapted to assorted sectors sing direction map. Furthermore, every faculty was designed within a specific scope of cordial reception content equipped writer unique cognition if he decided to affect into this sector. Academic cognition and practical contemplation were two chief subdivisions involved in leading faculties. Theoretical side pointed out leading was an inevitable certificate to raise and prolong effectual public presentation in an organisation. Researching constituents, rules in both traditional ( behaviours, situational leading ) and modern-day theories ( such as transactional, transformational leading, etc. ) helped writer acknowledge act uponing people was non merely a straightway attack, it was truly an art of interaction driving work force to lend their best attempt. In add-on, variable state of affairs indicated the cosmopolitan leading manner for every state of affairs was improbable. Alternatively, variable context among organisations agencies unsuitably exercising influence to subordinate would finally transport inauspicious consequence to public presentation. Practical assignments consolidated this look by carry oning interview, observation in organisations. In respect to direction faculties, Introduction of theories via fond regard of modern-day issues to organisation particularly in the cordial reception industry revealed the analogy between sustainability and consistency development. Academic aspects liked corporate societal duty, strategic direction, etc. critical contemplation patterns in the context of past, present and future were highly utile to exemplify how sustainability was revised, formulated and maintained. Module â€Å" community impact pattern † supplemented extra quality to the class because construct of critical contemplation had reminded writer the necessity of critical appraisal of cognition during the larning journey by rhenium examining, measuring academic penetration on a regular footing. Furthermore, carry oning the CIP undertaking engendered great opportunity to practically implement twosome of academic theories in the context of leading and direction. Meanwhile, comparison and contrasting diaries in â€Å" research method † theoretical accounts was apathetic to critical contemplation on academic domain. Personal strengths and failings Analytic competency was an writer ‘s capableness which bit by bit became better by set abouting researches, assignments in MSC class. The combination of this ability and forbearance no uncertainty brought an add-on to coursework ‘s standard since account were constantly contemplated carefully within proper usage of academic linguistic communication. Beside that, writer was able to keep calm when interacting with crowd. This certificates and analytical accomplishment were critical when making presentation because proper replies would be delivered quickly after being asked inquiry. However, lack to present drastic behaviour led to incapableness to exercise influence to a squad in a critical state of affairs. This was expressed clearly in CIP undertaking where writer in some circumstance would non drive kids back to public presentation. This was besides the nucleus factor to forbid the applicable graduated table of theories implemented into undertaking. Possibly, some traits were of course born and would non be occupied within a reasonably short period. Career planning As being explained above, the MSC class addresses on direction context implied writer would handily get a managerial place without being constrained in cordial reception sector. However, low experience and inefficiency in managing drastic state of affairs in prevailing dynamic environment meant there was still a long distance for writer to make such power. Alternatively of impractically anticipating a respectable place in an organisation, it was much more indispensable to systematically heighten current capablenesss ( which involved calm, analytical accomplishment ) critically in order to extenuate failings in short term via the vision of changing them into new strengths in the long hereafter. As a consequence, using for junior places to a concern entity was prioritized purposes to roll up sufficient competency to capture long term aspiration.DecisionIn decision, writer gathered valuable experience by planning and set abouting CIP undertaking in the mark of critical contemplation. Co ncept of contemplation facilitated personal development every bit good as heightening undertaking quality through take a firm standing profoundly on nucleus determiner ensuing to lower than expected mark. Therefore, a cardinal construction was engendered to supportively determine more effectual alternate solutions. In add-on, there was ever a distance between academic and pattern due to either human or contextual variableness. Finally, despite penetration of direction and leading had been dramatically optimize, the academic prejudice indicated that writer must devour considerable clip of critical contemplation in junior places to change these cognition into practically utile competency.

Phil Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Phil - Essay Example He advised the youth to be super historical and unhistorical. Additionally, he emphasized that the condition of being both upper historical and unhistorical usually allows the youth to develop a stable character in terms of religion and art (Nietzsche 60). As the youths avoid basing their lives on the past events, they will overcome a condition referred to as historical malady. This is an important process because it helps youths uphold their culture in the society. Advantages and shortcomings of history to life According to Nietzsche, every person is usually part of the task of existence. It is clear that for existence to occur, human beings need to have knowledge and truth about their past (Nietzsche 1). He still insists that without history, people will lack humanity because narrations constitute the record of self-production. History is important because retaining the culture in a society, as well as, ensuring that young generation acquires useful values such as respect and hones t is fundamental. According to Nietzsche, the historical sense stifles or limits the human creativity by ruining the people’s identity and their meaning in the society. During the process of finding truth and knowledge about the past, deadly facts are sometimes gathered. This is likely to ruin the lives of people (Nietzsche 1). As Nietzsche put it, some of the activities involved in the process of gathering knowledge are usually perverted. This is attributable to the supposition that facts obtained are not applicable in any activity that is likely to change the lives of people (Nietzsche 2). Nietzsche criticizes history because it does not promote life, but employs deadly practices. Effects of excess history Excess history refers to a process that allows an individual to gain knowledge about the past without any intention of applying it. The excess history results in a condition called modern pseudo-culture where historical knowledge is not put to any particular use. After we akening personality, this condition usually turns resourceful people into actors in the society. The excess history depletes the instincts of people limiting them from attaining a certain level of growth or maturity. Nietzsche suggests that in order to increase the capacity for growth in future, it is necessary to emphasize on the past, and connection between the present and the past. This move will tend to direct the society on the best use of the history knowledge that serves life. History should be instrumental in the growth of modernity (Nietzsche 12). Question 2 The Response of Modern Philosophy to the Genesis Account of Human life Using the outline of The Book of Genesis, Kant developed speculations about the beginning of the human history. According to Genesis 4:2, man is said to have been feeding on roots before taming animals or engaging in agricultural activities. Kant points out the slow transition of man from being a hunter to taming animals and engaging in agricultural activities. The beginning of the strife separated people according to their different ways of life. Consequently, people moved to different parts of the world. Some people engaged in farming activities that was characterized by the challenges of unpredictable weather conditions; while others still engaged in hunting because of the availability of extensive grazing land. Since the agricultural activities required the farmers to settle in specific locations, they needed to protect their cultivated land and themselves from

Summary - Essay Example And, of course, another thing is very obvious: the science has evolved since 1992, with additional research on issues including the nutritional content of foods and food consumption patterns.   In 1992 pyramid, some vague and ambiguous guidelines were developed in which major focus was put on the usage of grains as the first priority. However, the use of fats, carbohydrates and sugar related diets were least prioritized. On the other hand, the 2005 pyramid improvised the nutrition guidelines a bit in which first priority of food consumption is allotted to fruits and vegetables and then followed by grains. The similarity still lies in the form last preference related to the consumption of fat, oily and sugar related items. Other thing that is added in 2005 edition is that 12 versions are introduced as every person is different from other person in respect of eating and nutritional habits. So in order to fulfill every person’s most of nutritional requirements, a broad pyramid consisting of 12 versions is introduced. In the same news conference, Mr. Johanns introduced the media people with a fitness personality namely as Denise Austin to demonstrate the element of exer cise in the nutritional guideline. However, according to some of the critics, this pyramid does not add too much value as it lacks substance. According to Dr. Willett, Its somewhat disappointing that a lot of what was in the guidelines is not readily conveyed in what Ive seen so far. In the words of Dr. Marion Nestle, What theyve done is remove any of the eat-less suggestions. However, the new 2005 edition of pyramid showed significant convenience as the old 70-pages guidelines were summed up on a web portal in such a manner that the concerned consumer can easily find out the guidelines relating to his nutritional requirements. Another issue that is creating difficulties for Department

Communication Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Communication - Research Paper Example I was with my friends, and sometimes it was awkward getting up out of the raised barstool chairs with backs in order to meet and greet people who were coming and leaving the bar and grill. For the most part, people at my table did not violate other peoples' personal space. Everyone was pretty respectful. I cannot necessarily say the same for the people sitting at the bar. When I glanced over at the bar occasionally, people were leaning on the top of the bar and having their arms folded, or they had their arms pointing the direction of other customers. I'm sure it was a cozy atmosphere for many of those folks, and friendly too, I'm just not sure everyone at the bar had the equal amount of elbow room that is nice to have when one is sitting around the tabletop of a bar. One has to kind of edge in, sit on a barstool, and make oneself comfortable. Peoples' appearances were rather varied and interesting. Some people were dressed up. Some men wore a tie, but for the most part there were no men wearing suits. All the men seemed to be dressed casually but in nice polo shirts. The women for the most part dressed nicely as well, some more than others. Not many women had excessive jewelry or accessories. Some women didn't wear any jewelry at all, which I found quite surprising, because usually on the whole, women wear jewelry of some type. One woman who was a singer in the show had her hair professionally done and wore a modicum of jewelry but nothing too extreme. Another singer in a band which performed, who also was a woman, had absolutely no jewelry on. I thought the woman with the jewelry was prettier and had more substance as an artist than the woman without any decorative ornamentation at all. The woman who wore jewelry looked like she took care of herself better. Her nails were painted and nicely manicured as well. Overall, peoples' appearances were clean-cut but not professional in any sense of the word, except for one woman I did notice who was wearing a dress. Other than that, both men and women wore casual clothing and nothing extremely fancy or overdone. Peoples' communication, both verbal and non-verbal, was congruent for the most part. The people producing the show at the bar and grill were very nervous, looking at the crowd quite a bit and analyzing how many people were at the venue. They had promoted this event (mainly for the sake of their own band being filmed by ABC later on in the evening), and the people who put on the show were worried that they weren't going to get enough of a crowd in to see the artists/musicians play. For the most part, peoples' body language and what they didn't say was very telling. Few people avoided eye contact, which is a non-verbal behavior which people do when they are lying.1 I could tell some people were nervous or bored by the way we were holding conversation. Some people were just nervous to be in social settings, and other people were trying to act interested in making conversation

Improving the value of the performance appraisal system Essay

Improving the value of the performance appraisal system - Essay Example This motivates creative and positive discussion in the workplace. Additionally, using an appraisal for each employee plays a major role in the managers attempt to improve performance appraisals (Deb, 2009). This means that the manager will assess the ability and performance of all employees as per their capacity as opposed to having a general format that all employees use. This move will create a focus-driven discussion that will allow the manager discuss issues based on an individual. Lastly, empowering the employees will lead to an improved performance appraisal (Deb, 2009). This refers to the managers helping the employees set meaningful goals and plan well on how to implement the same. The employees will also feel that the manager trusts them and most will commit to fulfilling the set goals. If the employees set the goals well, and achieve them in the end, it means the performance appraisal is successful (Deb,

Ebay Turnaround Strategy Essay Example for Free

Ebay Turnaround Strategy Essay The company known as eBay, which started in 1995, grew significantly within a decade to become the number one e-commerce site in the world by sales revenue. In 2008, Donahoe took over as the new CEO of eBay. This was a time when the company was facing issues with growth and consumer behavior was changing. What used to be a thrilling experience for buyers was now an inconvenient waste of time and money. Consumers who were eager to bid against each other for products online were now satisfied with buying new products at fixed prices. Therefore, ebay’s turnaround strategy was to bring the consumers the best experience to find what they want exactly how and when they want it. Although traditional eBay sellers complained about the difficulty for them to do business profitably with the new strategy, Donahoe believed buyers wanted fixed prices, quick service, and free shipping. I agree with Donahoe’s turnaround strategy because eBay had to focus on the market demands to see growth. Something had to be done in a market where consumers wanted fixed prices and free shipping that they were receiving from companies like Amazon. om. Marketing segmentation is dividing a market into smaller segments of buyers with distinct needs, characteristics, or behaviors that might require separate marketing and develops profiles of the resulting market segments. Creating applications for smart phones and tablets was a good way to separate a specific department to its customers. For example, the eBay Fashion app allowed users to browse through products from the fashion department. Buyers were able to take time out of their day and make more purchases with mix and match features. Using the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) method, companies like eBay classify all its SBUs according to the growth-share matrix. Market growth rate provides a measure of market attractiveness and relative market share measures a company’s strength in the market. The four types of SBUs are stars, cash cows, question marks, and dogs. Stars are high-growth, high-share businesses like eBay. When their growth slows down it turns into cash cows, which need less investment to hold their market share. Pepsi is a cash cow in the sense that its not growing but it is making large profit in the meantime. Question marks are low-share business units in high-growth markets. A question mark could be a small garage that does car repairs because it has a small market share but a large demand for car repairs. Dogs are low-growth, low-share businesses and products that may generate enough cash to maintain themselves. An example of this would be a small town theatre business.

Tesco SWOT Analysis 2015 2017

Tesco SWOT Analysis 2015 2017 Tesco plc was the UKs top retailer in 2013 (Retail Economics, 2014) and maintains a presence in 12 countries in Europe and Asia (Tesco, 2014). To sustain its position and build profitability, Tesco must assess its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT). Strengths and weaknesses focus on internal factors affecting a company; in contrast, opportunities and threats identify external issues (Collins, 2010). Thus, it is important to carry out a SWOT analysis to ascertain how the company is performing in the market (Kotler et al., 2013). Strengths Tesco is a powerful retail brand globally, in the top 100 of the worlds most valued brands, slightly below Ikea and well above eBay (Brand Finance, 2014). It is known as a company that offers value for money, convenience, a wide range of products, and locally-sensitive management (Wood and McCarthy, 2014). Worldwide, Tesco has 6,784 stores, an increase of 433 stores since 2012, despite the disposal of their US venture, Fresh Easy (Tesco, 2012, 2014). Tesco has utilised innovative business methods in its rise, including the creation of stores like Tesco Metro and Tesco Express, which are small stores in local neighbourhoods to make shopping more convenient for the customers (Schiraldi, Smith and Takahashi, 2012). Other strengths in their global operations include online shopping, joint ventures, such as in China, and local recruitment, including in senior management positions (Koen, Bertels and Elsum, 2011). Because of their size and facilities, Tesco can buy in bulk, benefiting from economies of scale (Blythman, 2012). This permits the company to lower prices to keep prices attractive and be competitive with UK retailers such as Asda or Sainsburys. Additionally, by creating loyalty packages such as the Clubcard, they retain customers, creating long-term relationships (Felgate, Fearne and Di Falco, 2011). Weaknesses Tesco has grown to be a very big company with a very wide range of products, diversified into food, books, clothing, furniture, insurance, petrol, and financial services. This model has its weaknesses. Tescos profit has been impacted by bad debt from credit cards and high levels of household insurance claims (Ruddick, 2014). Another issue is Tescos lack of experience in some markets that it intends to enter, such as its own brand smartphones and tablets (Wood and Gibbs, 2014). Finally, Tesco needs to invest a lot of cash in new web technologies and IT, as well as store refurbishment, diverting cash from price reduction strategies (Ruddick, 2014). This is likely to have an adverse effect on sales (Bunn and Ellis, 2012). Opportunities There are many opportunities for Tesco, including expansion into markets such as digital entertainment, through their 80% investment in Blinkbox (Hall, 2011). The move by Tesco to offer own-brand tablets and smartphones can intersect with this investment, particularly in foreign markets such as Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, and China (Piercy, Cravens and Lane, 2010). Online shopping can offer greater flexibility to customers who are leading busy family lives or have mobility issues; Tesco is trying to meet the needs of the customers by expanding operations in this sector (Ma, Ding and Hong, 2010). The ongoing effects of the recession, where families and individuals may be struggling financially, or too busy working to cook (Thompson et al., 2012), can be accommodated through wider value and Tescos Finest branding. In addition, further overseas expansion could occur in markets such as Australia, where the grocery retail market faces relatively limited competition yet is fiercely price-sensitive (Clarke, 2012). Threats Tesco is confronted by many threats in the market. Their current position as number one in the UK grocery retail sector means that they are the target of consistent competition from Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons, and, increasingly, Lidl and Aldi (Stevenson, 2014). One threat that Tesco continues to resist is the takeover of Asda by Wal-Mart. Branding of stores as Asda Wal-Mart has been increasing in the UK, demonstrating a weakening in the consumer disdain for Wal-Mart. The ninth most-valued brand in the world, Wal-Mart is Tescos largest global competitor and therefore has the necessary skills, resources, experience and funds to cause Tesco problems (Brand Finance, 2014). The effect of town planning and consumer intolerance for out-of-town stores, as well as concern for the livelihood of small shops, can also imperil Tescos expansion plans (Stevenson, 2014). Conclusion SWOT analysis allows marketers to identify risks in their environment. Once risks are evaluated, measures can adopted to mitigate against the adverse effects of market changes, or take advantage of openings (Kotler et al., 2013). Although a retailer may still face enormous challenges, such as Tesco is presently experiencing (Ruddick, 2014), developing flexibility enables companies to structure plans to optimise success, or avoid entering into projects in which failure is a significant possibility. Strengths may be tailored to opportunities in the market, so that strategies are enhanced and clear objectives set (Kotler et al., 2013).Through consistent planning and economic awareness, Tesco is well placed to secure its future, as its diversified retail strategy is likely to accommodate increasing consumer reliance on online shopping, digital products and services, discount grocery services. Love Is Patient, Love Is Kind

Love Is Patient, Love Is Kind I Cor. 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Christian love is Christs Commandment for all of HIS children. Jesus said, By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:35). John, inspired by the Holy Spirit, once wrote, We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death (1 John 3:14). And by this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome (1 John 5:2-3). A Pharisaic lawyer once asked our Lord, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said to him, You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:36-40) . According to Matthews Gospel, the very essence of the Law and the Prophets is to love God and to love others. And we see this term the Law and the Prophets used in one other place in Matthews Gospel. Its in this passage that we find the Biblical definition for love: Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12) In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus elaborates on this do unto others as you would have them do unto you principle. He says, Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. (Luke 6:30-36) When the King James translators came upon the Greek word agape (Gods Love), in addition to using the English word love to transliterate it, they often chose the English word charity. This was meant to reinforce the idea that agape is a selfless, giving love. Gods Love is unselfish and unconditional. Now we know what is meant by Christian love. Love is a holy disposition given to us when we are born again by God. It is the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. True spiritual love is characterized by meekness and gentleness, yet it is vastly superior to the courtesies and kindnesses of the flesh. We must be careful not to confuse human sentimentality, carnal pleasantries, human amiability and affability with true spiritual love. God commands love first to Him and then to others. It is not the indulgent, self-seeking love which is in us by nature. If we indulgently allow our children to grow up with little or, no Scriptural discipline, Proverbs plainly says we do not love them, regardless of the human sentimentality and affection we may feel for them. Love is not a sentimental pampering of one another with a loose indifference as to our walk and obedience before the Lord. Glossing over one anothers faults to ingratiate ourselves in their esteem is not spiritual love. The true nature of Christian love is a righteous principle which seeks the highest good of others. It is a powerful desire to promote their welfare. The exercise of love is to be in strict conformity to the revealed will of God. We must love in the truth. Love among the brethren is far more than an agreeable society where views are the same. It is loving them for what we see of Christ in them, loving them for Christs sake. The Lord Jesus Himself is our example. He was not only thoughtful, gentle, self-sacrificing and patient, but He also corrected His mother, used a whip in the Temple, Severely scolded His doubting disciples, and denounced hypocrites. True spiritual love is above all faithful to God and uncompromising towards all that is evil. We cannot declare, Peace and Safety when in reality there is spiritual decay and ruin! True spiritual love is very difficult to exercise because it is not our natural love. By nature we would rather love sentimentally and engender good feelings. Also many times true spiritual love is not received in love, but is hated as the Pharisees hated it. We must pray that God will fill us with His love and enable us to exercise it without dissimulation toward all. The word love can mean many different things in the English language. It can refer to a mothers love for her child, love of country, romantic love, friendship, or Gods love towards mankind. The Greek language has different words for different types of love. The original manuscripts of the New Testament of the Bible were written in the Greek language so we will take a look at the actual words used in the original manuscripts. We will explore the following Greek words: Agape Phileo Agape is defined as the love that God has for his Son and toward mankind. John 3:16 For God so loved (agape) the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Notice the first part of this verse, God so loved (agape) He gave. Agape love gives, agape love is the deep and constant love of a perfect being (God) towards an unworthy object (mankind). Ephesians 2:4 5 But because of his great love (agape) for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions it is by grace you have been saved. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love (agape) for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. We were unworthy objects, we were sinners. Agape love is love that only comes from God. God showed his love (agape) among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. Agape love gives unselfishly and takes action in a visible way. As sinners, we deserved the death that Jesus took upon himself on the cross. We were unworthy of the love that God demonstrated toward us when he allowed his only Son to die on the cross for us. Agape love is why Jesus died on the cross for our sins in such a visible and humiliating way before all creation. Agape love truly does take action in a visible and if necessary humiliating way. Agape love is God doing what is best for mankind and not necessarily what man desires. Agape love is not drawn out by excellency in its objects. It is an exercise of the divine will in deliberate choice, made without assignable cause. In contrast, Phileo is defined as to be a friend to, indicating feelings, warm affection. As we study love we will begin to understand that Phileo is the love that can come easily because of like interests, commonalities. Sometimes we meet people who we naturally like. They are easy to get along with, you may share the same ideas, and theyre likable and enjoyable to be around so you feel comfortable and have good feelings being around them. Many times you develop a warm affection toward them and enjoy their company. Some want to say that God has only agape love but we know that is not true. Take a look at the following verses: John 3:35 The Father loves (agape) the Son and has placed everything in his hands, Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for Gods wrath remains on him. John 5:20 For the Father loves (Phileo) the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. In John chapter 21, both words are used but each word retains its distinctive and essential character. Before we study John 21, lets review the events that lead up to this chapter. Peter is one of the twelve disciples, a fisherman by trade, who follows Jesus during three years of ministry. Near the end of Jesus life, just before Jesus is crucified, the last 24 hours go something like follows: The Passover meal or last supper is observed by Jesus and the twelve disciples During the meal Jesus says that He will be betrayed by one of the twelve disciples Peter is quick to say in Mark 14:29 Even if all fall away, I will not. Luke 22:33 34 records Peter saying: But he replied, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death. Jesus answered, I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me. They leave the upper room and go to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus asks a few disciples to keep watch and pray, Peter is one of them. Jesus returns to find them sleeping as recorded in Mark 14:37 38 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. Simon, he said to Peter, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. Recorded in Mark 14:39, Jesus comes back a second time to find his disciples sleeping again. And again as recorded in Mark 14:41, Jesus returns a third time and asks Are you still sleeping and resting? Judas arrives on the scene and the soldiers start to arrest Jesus. In John 18:10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priests servant, cutting off his right ear. Jesus rebukes him as recorded in John 18:11 Jesus commanded Peter,Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me? Next we find Peter following at a distance as Jesus is lead away. Mathew 26:58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. Read closely the following verses recorded in Mathew 26:69 thru 75 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. You also were with Jesus of Galilee, she said. But he denied it before them all. I dont know what youre talking about, he said. Then he went out to the gateway, where another girl saw him and said to the people there, This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth. He denied it again, with an oath: I dont know the man! After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, Surely your are one of them, for your accent gives you away. Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, I dont know the man! Immediately a rooster crowed. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times. And he (Peter) went outside and wept bitterly. Jesus dies on the cross. Peter and the other disciples are scared and hiding out. What had they witnessed the last three years? All the miracles, the feeding of the five thousand, the man with leprosy who was healed, the blind man whose sight was restored and on and on we could go, not to mention all the teachings and parables by Jesus himself. Hes dead now, where do they go, and what do they do? Jesus remains in the tomb on the Sabbath. No one could go to the tomb on that day. The next morning, Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb but it is empty. She runs and tells the disciples, Peter and John run ahead of the other disciples they see the linen wrappings but no Jesus. They go to their homes. Jesus appears to Peter on the road to Emmaus. Jesus appears to the disciples and tells them to go to Galilee and wait for him. They go there and wait. Peter grows weary says Im going fishing (John 21:3 Im going out to fish, Simon Peter told them, and they said, Well go with you. So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.) Peter had gone back to what he had done before meeting Jesus and the other disciples followed. The next morning Jesus stood on the shore and called out to them Friends, havent you any fish? The disciples answered No. Jesus tells them Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some. Miraculously, they caught an abundance of fish. John who is in the boat with Peter realizes that it is Jesus and says to Peter It is the Lord! Peter is so happy that he jumps in the water and swims to the shore. There Jesus had fish cooking on burning coals and invited them saying Come and have breakfast. When they had finished breakfast, the following dialogue took place and is recorded in John 21:15 thru 17 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these? Yes, Lord, he said, you know that I love you. Jesus said, Feed my lambs. Again Jesus said, Simon son of John, do you truly love me? He answered, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. Jesus said Take care of my sheep. The third time he said to him, Simon son of John, do you love me? Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, Do you love me? He said, Lord, you know all things, you know that I love you. Jesus said, Feed my sheep. Loving one another (agape love) is one of the greatest outward expressions of our devotion to God. Jesus demonstrated agape love towards Peter even though Peter had failed so many times as evidenced in the verses listed above. Jesus was entrusting to Peter to be a leader in the Church when he said to Peter Feed my sheep. A Pharisee asked Jesus Which is the greatest commandment? Lets look at Mathew 22:37 thru 40 Jesus replied Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it. Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Loving one another with an agape type love shows our love for God and to God. John 14:15 If you love (agape) me, you will obey what I command. John 15:12 My command is this: Love (agape) each other as I have loved (agape) you. I John 4:20 -21 If anyone says, I love God, yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother. In contrast, when we love one another with an agape type love, the Spirit of God can work through us in the lives of other people that need to see the love of Jesus.

The Rebirth Of American Musical Theatre Essay example -- essays resear

Two great writers of American musical theatre, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, had one idea in common. They wanted to present to the American public a new and revolutionary musical that would stand out above the rest. They wanted to make an impact on the societies of the era. They wanted to be creative and do something that was considered rebellious. When they finally combined their ideas together they created an American masterpiece in musical theatre: Oklahoma!. It was the first Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration, starting the most successful creative partnership in the history of American musical theatre. According to Joseph Swain in his book The Broadway Musical: A Critical and Musical Survey, there are a number of reasons why a particular work of art might be considered a milestone in the history in its genre. It might introduce innovations of technique and style so convincing that they may become extremely influential. It might attract such wide acclaim that it cannot be ignored by the artists who come after, even if the acclaimed fame eventually fades with time. It could stand as the first work of an important series. Or perhaps, it sets a new standard of artistry. (73) For whatever factors that influenced the writers to create the works they did, they produced some of the most successful and incredibly influential works of musical theatre in their time. In the years before Oklahoma! was created, Broadway was dying. New and refreshing musicals were a rare occasion and when an artist tried to create something that he hoped his audience would like, he was sadly disappointed. Broadway was suffering from a lack of what it was revered for: astounding plays and musicals. Its time of glamour and glitz was almost forgotten, and was in need of being saved. That is why Oklahoma! is considered a rebirth of the American musical theatre at the time. It brought Broadway back to life, filling theatre seats with enthusiastic audiences who embraced the changes of this new theatre musical with open arms and made it a legend. Oklahoma! set new standards for classic American theatre by introducing new techniques of presenting the musical to the audience, introducing a new genre of music into the theatre, and strayed away from the usual classic form and structure of a musical that audiences had grown used to. It was a time of change, a time of excitement ,... ...ve musical that riveted audiences and even continues to attract audiences all over the world to this day. Although Oklahoma! premiered some 40 years ago, and its style of music and dance have grown old with the passing of time, it still demands respect for its combination and imaginative ideas that revolutionized the musical industry at the time. Rodgers and Hammerstein were the dominate force in musical comedy in the 1940's and 50's. Even their flops had notable songs. Several of their shows became successful films. Oklahoma!'s importance in opening a new era in the American Musical Theatre will never be challenged. It has become an American classic that society will forever treasure for its beautiful integration of song and dance. Works Cited Bordman, Gerald. American Musical Comedy. Successful Application of Theory to a Placement Case Essay -- social w

An important aspect of social work is expert knowledge (Walker, 2012) and application of theory to practice, supported through research evidence (Dunk-West, 2013). In addition, the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF, The College of Social Work, 2012) outlines the expectations of social workers in the UK. As a student social worker, the PCF governs my development and practicing the application of theory is a critical stage in learning. To facilitate this application, I am placed with Southwark Council. Southwark has recently started an organisational restructure, incorporating Reclaiming Social Work (Forrester et al. 2013) and coining it â€Å"Social Work Matters† (Southwark Council, 2014), see Appendix A. As part of this structure, student social workers are given the opportunity to work with and reflect on active cases and apply theory to the placement work. This essay will demonstrate the successful application of theory to a placement case, which has been included in Appendix A, fully anonymised. The Walker family’s brief background and presenting needs have been outlined and will be referred to throughout. The social work process will inform the structure of this essay – assessment, deciding on outcomes and planning, intervention and finally evaluation (Howe, 2002).The relevance of the chosen theory will be considered in relation to the above steps in the process and strengths and weaknesses will be evaluated. In order to address all these points in a meaningful way within this process this essay will consider a combination of theory and method. To clarify, †Theory helps to predict or describe a particular phenomenon† (Teater, 2010: 2) hence being particularly useful in the assessment or evaluation states. The Atrocity of Saul Alinskys Utilitarian Approach to Communcation Ess

The Atrocity of Saul Alinsky's Utilitarian Approach to Communcation Jeremy Bentham, one of the founders of Utilitarianism, believed his philosophy could provide for the â€Å"greatest happiness of the greatest number of people†. However benign it may sound, at the heart of Utilitarianism is a cold, teleological process which reduces happiness to a mere commodity. It is even worse that Saul Alinsky would extend this philosophy to a point where the truth becomes relative, justice becomes a tool of those powerful enough to wield it, and any means are justified to reach one’s desired ends. Utilitarianism’s focus on outcomes inevitably leads to a lack of concern with the means used to accomplish a given outcome. This allows for a process in which the rules of conduct are vague, open to interpretation, and less important than one’s objective. This lack of absolute standards clearly violates several key standards of Martin Buber’s Dialogic values, which I believe are essential to ethical communication. These standards stress the importance of the authenticity and honesty of one’s me...

A Comparative Study: Quality of Life in Rural and Urban Communities Essay

Happiness, life satisfaction, and subjective well-being are closely connected to quality of life. Accordingly, quality of life is defined based on different approaches. It can depend if the approach is objective or subjective or if the approach is negative or positive. It can also be defined according to its use, either in academic writing or everyday life. Thus, quality of life has no exact or universal definition (Susniene & Jurkauskas, 2009). Quality of Life (QoL) is usually referred to the definition of the World Health Organization (WHO) (1997) as the â€Å"individuals’ perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns† and â€Å"a broad ranging concept extended in a complex way by the person’s physical health, psychological state, level of independence, social relationships, personal beliefs, and the relationship to salient features of their environment. † The Dictionary of Human Geography 5th Edition (2009) defines that quality of life has the following dimensions: income, wealth and employment, built environment, physical and mental health, education, social disorganization, social belonging, and recreation and leisure. Quality of life is a broad multidimensional concept that also includes subjective evaluation and perception. It is defined in different ways in varying disciplines by individuals or groups. According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) (2013), the quality of life in the Philippines ranked 114th out of the 187 countries in year 2012. It is unchanged for two consecutive years from year 2011. The Philippines’ HDI was lower than Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore but higher than Indonesia and Vietnam. UNDP uses the Human Development Index (HDI) to measure quality of life with three dimensions specifically health, education, and income. Looking at where the Philippines ranked in comparison with the quality of life of other countries, it seems that the country is falling behind. It is quite interesting then to determine the QoL in the local perspective specifically in Batangas City. Unexpectedly, Batangas City, which is where the study was conducted, commits itself in improving quality of life of its citizen, and it is stated in their mission: â€Å"To improve the quality of life of the citizen through sustained efforts to attain a balance agro-industrial development; to generate more employment opportunities and adequately provide the basic infrastructure utilities, facilities and social services necessary for a robust community. † Thus, the mission reflects how the local government of Batangas City values the quality of life of their contemporaries. This study can provide assessment of QoL in terms of the four indicators of the study and can project the effect of the government’s effort in uplifting the life of the people. In the researchers’ search for related literatures and studies, they have found out that this inquiry about Batanguenos’ quality of life is the first of its kind in the locality. The government does not have any available research studies in the past tackling about QoL or any direct means of measuring it. Hence, this undertaking is a stepping stone in closely monitoring improvement in the people’s way of life. This study will benefit the local government, future researchers, academic institutions, and, above all, the residents of Batangas City. The researchers embarked in this study to provide a comparative assessment on the quality of life between rural and urban communities in Batangas City as well as to look at the perception of residents about satisfaction in life with regard to certain indicators. Since each individual innately pursue happiness and life satisfaction that constituted in obtaining QoL, the interest of the researchers were aroused. The researchers aimed to provide a thorough examination on people’s QoL for both rural and urban communities on the basis of the four indicators of the study. Moreover, they also wanted to compare and contrast the QoL of respondents in terms of their profile to find association in it. Being the first study about quality of life in the province of Batangas and the latest assessment of living condition in the country for years, this study wished to contribute in enhancing the Filipino lives and to serve its purpose as an instrument in promoting good life for each and every citizen of the Philippines. Statement of the Problem This study aimed to know the quality of life in rural and urban barangays of Batangas City to provide a comparative examination of life among people living in two different communities. More specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of respondents in terms of: 1. 1 sex; 1. 2 age; 1. 3 civil status; 1. 4 educational attainment; and 1. 5 type of community? 2. How can quality of life of respondents be assessed in terms of: 2. 1 built environment; 2. 2 physical and mental health; 2. 3 social belonging; and 2. 4 recreation and leisure? 3. Is there a significant relationship between the profile of respondents and their quality of life? 4. Is there a significant difference in the quality of life between rural and urban communities? 5. What activity can be proposed to promote the quality of life of Batangas City residents? Scope, Delimitation and Limitation of the Study This study focused on the comparative assessment of rural and urban quality of life in Batangas City. Specifically, the study was designed to measure QoL in terms of the four indicators of the study namely built environment, physical and mental health, social belonging, and recreation and leisure. The study identified the association between the profile of respondents and their QoL. The profile variables included sex, age, civil status, educational attainment, and type of community. Moreover, this study would provide a comparative examination of QoL in rural and urban communities in Batangas City. Respondents of the study came from the first five locations in Batangas City determined in terms of population. The first five barangays with the highest population in rural and urban communities served as the research environment of the study. Rural communities comprised of Balete, Tingga Labac, Tabangao Ambulong, San Jose Sico, and Sampaga while urban communities included Sta. Rita Karsada, Poblacion, Alangilan, Bolbok, and Cuta. The study was conducted from April 2013 to October 2013. This study did not seek to include other locations in Batangas City which were not mentioned above. This study did not cover the whole situation of the province of Batangas or other cities and municipalities therein in terms of quality of life. Factors such as income, wealth and employment, education, and social disorganization were not measured in this study. Significance of the Study This comparative study on the quality of life of rural and urban communities aims to provide awareness on the QoL between rural and urban barangays in Batangas City. It also seeks to provide awareness on the present condition of the life of the people of Batangas to better understand the things that need to be improved and developed. This study will benefit researchers, students, the academe, and the community. This study would pave the way for the possibility of determining and closely investigating certain indicators of quality of life in both rural and urban communities. It would also generate information on how the profile of respondents relates to QoL. More specifically, this study would be of significant use to the following: To the people of Batangas, this undertaking is a reflection of the most recent real life situation of the people of Batangas City that exposes the life they have today. This would help them better understand the living conditions they have and how to improve or enhance it. To local government officials and offices, this study would serve as a framework for their future projects and activities related to improving or enhancing quality of life. To the City of Batangas, this study would provide a written reflection of the present condition of the city of Batangas and the mirrored situation of the past and present. It would benefit Batangas because this study would serve as the shadow of the life the people has today. Batangas State University, this study would be a proof that Borbonians have the capability of producing quality, relevant, and scientific research study. To the College of Arts and Sciences, this study would be another accomplishment of academic excellence and would serve as an evidence of the quality education that this university can offer. This thesis would be an addition to the pool of knowledge generated in this institution. To Psychology students, this would serve as a basis for future researchers focused in the examination and analysis of life and ways to improve or enhance it. To future researchers, this study would serve as a reference for future studies about quality of life concerned with the following domains: built environment, physical and mental health, social belonging, and recreation and leisure.
